The birth of the Heavenly Empire - 2006

This was the first of four biennial exhibitions held at the Casa dei Carraresi in Treviso between 2005 and 2012 dedicated to the discovery of twenty-two centuries of Chinese culture and history. The curator, Adriano Màdaro, an expert sinologist, selected more than three hundred exhibits from museums located along the Silk Road, the legendary trade root between Europe and the East, including precious silks from the second century B.C., the famous warriors of the terracotta army of Xi'an, and a series of model houses in terracotta from the second century A.D. These and other extremely delicate exhibits, many of which are normally kept in secure museum vaults, told the fascinating story of ancient China, from the first emperor Qin Shi Huangdi, the builder of the Great Wall, to the fall of the Tang dynasty (907 A.D.), the dynasty that is considered the "golden age" of Chinese civilisation.
